Puerto Rico Update

Our last day we searched all over the west coast looking for waves. The north side was completely blown out by the massive swell. I got to surf Gas Chambers for the first time ever in my life. I got a massive barrel and on my second wave I made all the way to the rock wall, glad didn't kill myself on that one. Too bad we could get any footage, it was a picture paradise!

Puerto Rico put together a great event, not only the waves are firing, but the whole contest is moving very nice, all the guys from all over the world are really stoked to surf down here. I've seem so many old friends this week, really stoked.

The forecast for the entire time we are down here in Puerto Rico is great, it seems like we are gonna score everyday. I made this trip with Brian Holloway, we flew together from Orlando and down in PR we met with Damian Dinham, Dan Worley, Billy Andersen and Devin Ricke, the best of the best from Florida.

My first day in Puerto Rico!...conditions were great, 6 ft glass all day long, we surfed in Middles right before the contest and after the contest till dark. It was nice to surf to all those PROs attending this event. The bad news, I got about 40 sea urchins in my right hand. I've surfed this place several times, never had an incident, now I got as many urchins as I could collect in one session.

If you live in the Gulf, you know the drill, once these cold fronts start getting here, we start getting waves from them. This week we had waves for 3 straight days, that's a long time if you live in the Gulf. I found this gem south of Tampa.

With a gret turnout, we got ready for the second event of the season for the BODY GLOVE FBA TOUR 2011. This is the largest Bodyboarding event in Florida, it's a 2 days event with a double point in the Standings.
Sad news last night when the entire Bodybaording Community found out that our felow friend Eddie Solomon passed away after battling with Cancer for more than a year.
We decided to honor his memory right away and did a paddle out on his name.

Hurricane Maria

Pretty active hurricane season!
Now we Maria, not as big as the other ones, but fun waves. I surfed in Ponce Inlet, couldn't believe it. 5-6 ft waves, light winds and small crowd. Now heading out to the SURF EXPO in Orlando, I'm stoked to see some friends and sponsors at the event.

Just getting home from New Jersey and got the chance to surf at home, thanks to Lee, not a major storm, but good enough for some waves in the Gulf. We had waves the whole Labor Day weekend.

The swell from Hurricane Irene is almost gone, but so competitors couldn't make the flights on time due to the hurricane, that's why the event was postponed for a day.

Ok, so we made the long drive from Florida to New Jersey. We were chasing Hurricane Irene. Tons of rain but no major damage on the road, I'm glad. Once we made it to seaside Heights, we couldn't wait a second to jump in the water. That was probably the best I've ever seen the East Coast. 6-8 ft, maybe bigger sets coming with perfect barrels and offshore winds. Nobody out, I couldn't believe it. I made the trip with my friends Dan Worley and Damian Dinham. We were so satisfied with the surf sessions, that we could have made that trip back home that day and it could've been all worthy.

Surfing Spanish House all day long!, this was probably one of my top 5 session at this spot. Right after that, we have a long trip ahead of us. I'll be going to New Jersey for the swell and also to judge at the USBA JENKS PRO.

This weekend Hurricane Irene brought some of the best swells to Florida in a long time. I surfed Sebastian Inlet and also Spanish House in Central Florida. It was good to see all the boys at the Inlet.

New Smyrna Beach is one of the most consistent spot in all Florida. It could flat all over the State and you always find waves up there. Yesterday, we surfed some nice chest to head high waves, good conditions and almost no crowd, I couldn't believe it!
Now, the Hurriane season should start bringing some good swell soon!

Tropical Storm Brett

Brett is the second storm this hurricane season. It got together last minute yesterday and even when it's not a major hurricane, still was good enough to bring some fun waves to the east Coast on Sunday, specially summer time. We went to Sebastian for an all day session. I hadn't surfed there in a long time. Now, let's see when we are gonna get a big one.

The first storm in the gulf brought some chunky waves for the flat Gulf. This system of low pressure came together last minute, so not well organized, but waves at the end.

We surfed today the famous Salt Creek. When you park on top of the hil, you don't get to see how the waves are, so you have to walk all the way down there and it might be small or it might be big, from the parking lot looked decent. Dan and I decided to go down there already geared up and take our chances.
The best decision we made, glassy 5-6 ft waves, maybe bigger on the sets, peeling off so good and the water was warmer than previous day. This spot is one that i like to come back again.

We went last night to visit some Dan's friend and we got to surf this secret spot behind the Air Force Base where he works in Port Hueneme. That's probably the coldest water I've ever had in life, we couldn't stay too long.
Then, in our way back to Hungtington Beach, we stopped by at the contest to watch all the Finals. Dave Hubbard killed the PRO and DK Finals. He surfed pretty good in this event.

Dan has made his first heat with the highest score so far, but he got put out in the quarter finals.

We arrived in San Diego, check a couple of spot, but not much surf going on, so we decided to go to CUSTOM X warehouse, right where they make our boards. It was good to see the shapers, JOJO and Debbie and everyone else working at CUSTOM X. Got to see every process of making a board, pretty sick!

I'm going to California this week for the US OPEN of BODYBOARDING. This is the first event for the 2011 USBA season. My friend Dan Worley and i are the only Floridians going up there. Forecast looks good and planning to surf all over Southern California.

Outer Banks trip

Our last day in Outer Banks, The OBX contest was pretty fun, Dan Worley got 1st Place in the DK division, Jacob Beede got 3rd Place in the AM division and Billy Andersen got 3rd place also in the Beater division, the boys representing Florida. In one of this pictures we have Dan Worley, Billy Andersen, Kenny Lawrence, Jacob Beede and me, just missing Damian Dinham.
Then, the drive back home, that's the painful part, what a long freaking drive!

We went back to Cape Hatteras and surf some smaller, but cleaner surf in Avon. Pretty fu surf day with the guys.
We also went to the Go Carts, if you've ever been up here, you should know already that there is not much to do around here, but this was fun!

Som of the guys are competing in the 2nd OBX Shotout Surf & Bodyboard PRO-AM contest, but after the first day, we went to Avon in Cape Hatteras, some solid surf, the sets were coming 6ft plus with light winds, big and chunky.

The Outer Banks in North Carolina. I haven't been up here in a while, so I decided to come up with some friends and do a rod surf trip. I've been coming to the Outer Banks for quite some time and have some good memories of this area. I just hate to wear a wetsuit again!

I had a great weekend!...got some good looking waves at Ponce Inlet, conditions were great, decent size, glassy and perfect weather. It's been a while since last time I surfed up there. Then Sunday, went out to the Water Park in Orlando with friends to do some Wakeboarding. I forgot last time I did it, but definetely fun, something different to do.

this winter has been ok, nothing to brag about it, but this past weekend, finally, we got some solid swell. Conditions were perfect, 5-6 ft with offshore winds down in Sebastian Inlet. I haven't surfed that spot this good in so long.

Now, I'm back home!
This has been one of my best surf trip ever!
I surfed everyday some perfect waves, I couldn't believe it, 6-8 ft, glassy all the time. I was surfed out everyday and still have time to watch the Rip Curl PRO. Wacthing Kelly winning his 10th World Title is a highlight in my life, that was fun. On top of that, we party every night like there was no tomorrow, I stayed with some that owns a club right at JOBOS and his apt is right on top of the club, we got VIP treatment the whole week, too much drinking I have to say.
So, at the end of my trip, I had a great time, the only thing is, that I couldn't get one water shot at all, so hard to find a photographer with the main event taking all the guys, but I'm not complaining, next time!!!!

This was a historic moment, Kelly Slater has won his 10th World Title and the Rip Curl PRO Search, both in Puerto Rico, I'm so glad I made this trip!!!!!!, the Champ greeting the crowd!

The East Coast was having this wind swell pretty much all week long. Nothing big, but just fun enough to catch some waves. Hopefully this weekend will get good, it's looking really good in the forecast, right before going to Puerto Rico!!!!!

Yesterday we got a nice ground swell over the East Coast, solid 4-5 ft with offshore winds for most of the day, you can beat that!
Winer is coming early this year, hopefully good swells from it.

Hurricane Igor was not the clean offshore swell like other major hurricanes, but this one brought some good sizes to Florida. We went to take some pictures from this swell. I'm barely making it out of this barrel.

This hurricane season has been pretty active. Earl got the biggest swell so far. We surfed down south, vero Beach area and Wabbasso. It wasn't as big as up north, but for sure the cleanest. We should have more picture and video later on.

At last minute, made a decision to go to New Jersey for the weekend to chase Hurricane Danielle. That was my first surf trip to New Jersey. Best conditions we found was at Manasquan Inlet in point Pleasant, NJ; 6ft waves and glassy conditions. Good looking barrels for sure. Saturday night got to go to New York, hanging out with Luis and Marcos for the weekend.

This weekend we had a solid couple of days of waves. New Smyrna Beach was a better choice for this storm and Sunday I was one of the first one in the water. Some solid 5-6 ft waves and offshore winds most of the day, what else can you ask for?, crowd was kindda heavy, but plenty of waves for everyone.

I will definetely go back to California. It's a great place for surfing. We went from Oceanside, all the way up to Malibu and every town in between looking for waves, even thou, we stayed in Huntington Beach. I really enjoyed that, every town has its own identity, as soon as you drive few miles, waves, scenary, layouts, pretty much everything is different.

Southern California has some great breaks, you can drive and drive and find spot after spot. The only thing is that, water is cold. It's almost summer and weather and water is still cold.
We surfed today in Huntington Beach some good solid head high waves, after checking spot all over the place.

After postponed this event for 2 weeks due to lack of waves, the 2010 FBA season took off with a great first event. Good times as always!!

I just got my ticket to go to the US OPEN of Bodyboarding. This is an USBA event where top 5 Regional riders will compete along with International, National and local competitors. This is the biggest Bodyboarding event in the mainland. Cali, here we go!!

Today was hot as hell, but we got a decent wind swell in warm water already. This might be my last time surfing in the gulf for a while, before the Oil spill comes our way. We are just days away before we see the effects of this big mess. You have no idea how upset I am now with this crap!!

We went to Sebastian Inlet this week for a solid groundswell over the East Coast. Randy tried to do his best, waves were closing out really quick, even when the wind was offshore most of the day on a solid 5-6 ft waves.

Now in Tobago. You have to take a 2 hrs Ferry to get here, the one you see right behind me. This small island has the best surf in the country. Mt Irvine is a perfect point break, rights only, on a shallow reef, I mean shallow, on my first wave hit my knee, I didn't check it out after few waves. So far, surf has been ok, but now I can say I've found paradise in Tobago. believe it or not, I was the only one in the morning, then, in the afternoon, few local guys jump in the water.

This is one of the most consistent winter for waves in the gulf, but also one of the coldest, this week, I've got ice on my car everyday!!

Big and chunky waves is what you get after a good cold front in the gulf. Anna Maria Island was solid, believe it or not, only 10 people out.

This is probably the best I've seen Sebastian Inlet in a long time. Big sets coming on glassy conditions for most of the day, what a surf day, specially after a long day in Flagler Beach working on the FBA.

The gulf keep going off with the winter season. South of Tampa, we got some solid barrels!!

The waves haven't stopped over the East Coast, solid head high pretty much the whole last week and over the weekend winds turned offshore.
I got this photos taken at Sebastian Inlet for this barrel sequence in a nice 5-6 ft offshore swell.

Hurricane IDA

Hurricane IDA brought some good solid waves to the Gulf. Monday was an epic day, head high plus, glassy and non stop barrels. We surfed till dark, all day.

This weekend we had a nice swell on the East Coast, some good glassy waves most of the day and some solid barrels. Last weekend we had our first cold front this season over the gulf, so hopefully this next few months we can count on some good swells for the winter.

TOMMY TANT Memorial Surf Classic

The 10th TOMMY TANT Memorial Surf Classic was another great event this year. I always enjoy going to Flagler Beach and participate in this contest, the vibe is so good and the community really embraces this event for the whole weekend.
Conditions were not great for the contest, waves were small and that was what we had to deal with. I got 5th Place in the Open Bodyboard Final.

We worked together to get the biggest Bodyboarding event in Florida in a long time!
All the hard work paid off.
